2 Weeks and counting

So we are down to the final two weeks before Isaac is due. I am getting antsy to see my little man! I had a dream about him the other night, well at least it was supposed to be him. He had blue eyes like his daddy and blond hair like his mommy and grandpa used to have.
I had my home visit on Tuesday, and she siad that Isaac is straight up and down now. Which means he is in the correct position for me to go into labor! So come on, let's get on with it already!
Okay, I'll try to be patient...but it's so hard being so close.

Pregnant belly

The photo attached is of Brad, the dogs, and I at Palmer Park! Brad's good friend Steve took this photo a couple weekends back. I am a little bigger now, but you get the idea. You can really see that I've put on weight all over. I went to the midwive's office this afternoon and weighed in at 183. 4 more weeks to go; I might just get up to 190 before all is said and done. EEK! Well, it's worth it to have a cute little bundle to love and care for. She also informed me that Isaac's head is further down in my pelvis than two weeks ago, which she said indicated a shorter dilation time. Yay for me!
In other news, had my first "belly rub" from a complete stranger tonight. I went to the grocery the store and the bagger reached over, rubbed my belly in a circular motion, and said, "Buddha belly!" My first impulse was to slap her hand away, and then I thought, oh what the heck, what harm does it do. So yeah, strangers beware, next time I might not be in such a generous mood!

Must find safe place

It's 1 A.M. and I was awakened to the sound of sirens, my dog Marcus barking followed by the sound of a tazer gun going off. Brad rushes to the door, comes back and says "I think they're in our driveway. Stay inside!" Gets on his shorts and goes out the front door...Sure enough there was a Hispanic man hiding under our truck and a policeman on foot had found him and tazed him. A cop car pulls up in front of our house and asks Brad if he wants to file a trespassing report while another police officer goes in our backyard looking for another suspect! Am I living in some kind of freaking NIGHTMARE? Keep in mind while I am writing this little narrative, a helicopter is flying over our neighborhood and the surrounding area looking for the other guy that they searched for in our backyard.
I told Brad I couldn't give birth to our first child in this house! I don't feel safe anymore, obviously. He agrees. So I guess we'll be looking for a place to live here pretty quick. He really needs to find a job, too. If you are a fellow Christian reading this please say a little prayer for our family and especially Brad and his job search...

Hope I can fall asleep tonight.

Some documentaries I am dying to see

So I got an email from a friend telling me she was planning on hosting a private screening of a film produced by Ricki Lake called "The Business of Being Born." This is not the first time I'm hearing of this film. I have been getting Mothering magazine and they mention the film in the credits of one of their cover stories on C-sections. So I went to the website and WOW! I am so impressed with the premise of the movie! I can't wait to see it. Since finding that one, I've also seen the trailer for "Pregnant in America" and heard about another film called "Orgasmic Birth." Anyone interested in taking a look at these websites, here you go.

I think no matter what your final decision is on how you decide to bring you child into the world, be it naturally or with assistance of medication, it's important to get all the facts.

Braxton-Hicks Contractions

So yesterday and today, I felt BHC for the first time. They were pretty uncomfortable, but short-lived. At our appointment today we found out Isaac is head down! Super excited about that. Didn't know they moved into position so early. Now he just needs to stay that way till he comes!

Things about pregnancy I'm learning to embrace

So, when you find out your pregnant, of course, you think immediately about the end result of it--the baby! and have no idea what is in store for you emotionally, physically and mentally. Because you're pregnant, you have no choice really in what happens over the next nine months! So what do you do? You learn to embrace each new change whether it be physical, emotional or mental. The physical changes have been what is most noticeable for me. So here are the top ten things I have learned to embrace about pregnancy (in no particular order).

1. I'm gonna have to get something to eat every 3 hours.
2. If I eat too much, I am going to possibly have the urge to regurge especially while bending over to pick something up.
3. Sticking my toothbrush too far back while trying to clean my tongue is not a good idea if I want to keep my food down.
4. I am 35 pounds over weight and counting, and I just need to move past it and know it's all for the baby.
5. Stretch marks are inevitable and will continue to crop up until I give birth to our little man.
6. I'm gonna be hot no matter what I do...well, unless I go somewhere where the temperature is 70 degrees or below.
7. I will not be able to sleep through the night because I have to pee every 30 minutes to an hour.
8. It will continue to get harder to do things around the house because I get hot and exhausted more easily than before pregnancy.
9. My ankles swell if I sit or stand for too long.
10. I will have to learn to maneuver around this basketball better as it gets bigger.

Don't get me wrong, I love being pregnant, and not all of it has been bad. I do love waking up in the middle of the night feeling Isaac moving. I also like picking out all the bedding and other baby things we'll need for Isaac. And I love that Brad and I have grown closer through this pregnancy.

My first official maternity photo

So Brad and I got our butts in gear and took the first of 12 photos for our baby album. We have 12 weeks+ left till Isaac is supposed to come. It's so great having a photographer as a husband! He's pure genius with a camera. I can't wait till Isaac's here. Poor kid is gonna think he's got a Cyclops for a dad.

Chiropractic Care

So Brad and I ran into one of the gals from our Bradley class. She is married to a chiropractor and she ended up having her baby three and a half weeks early and only had 2 1/2 hours of active labor. FIRST CHILD! I was blown away. Well, of course, she said that her husband has never had a patient have a labor longer than 6 hours, so I'm thinking, SIGN ME UP! So today I went to the chiropractor for the very first time. He is great. I am glad that Brad and I decided to meet with him. Not only does he have a good track record for short labors, but he also has a 96% success rate for turning breech babies. So here's hoping I don't screw up his wonderful record!

Back in Colorado for good...till Isaac comes anyway!

So I just returned last wednesday from my trip to see my best friend and future "aunt" of Isaac, Heather. She is truly a kindred spirit, and we always have so much fun together! She lives in Springfield, Ill. It was my first time going to the midwest! We went to the Presidential Museum, Frank Lloyd Wright's Dana-Thomas House, The Arch in St. Louis and the St. Louis Zoo. I got a book for Isaac entitled, Who Pooped in the Park? at the arch gift shop. It has tracks and scat for various animals one would see in Yellowstone Park. I also got Isaac two stuffed animals at the zoo--a giraffe named Jeepers and an elephant named Elvis (names courtesy of Aunt Heather.)
This is what they look like!

Isaac can Hear!

So, it has been a while since I've posted. For those of you who stay up to date, sorry! I went to the midwife on Wednesday and she confirmed the sex. She said definitely boy. VERY obvious. So exciting knowing for sure. Anyway, she mentioned at the appointment that Isaac can hear Brad and I! YAY! So last night Brad read our first book of many to him. It is a book my father and mother read to me as a little girl. It's called Bible Time Nursery Rhymes. It is a collection of short poems of Bible stories, my favorite is the story of Naaman. You can't buy this book anymore unless you buy it from a used or rare online bookseller. Anyway, I am so excited that Brad and I can finally talk to Isaac and he's able to hear us.

Posting from Mommy's Tummy

Hey Everybody,
I'm baby Isaac. Mommy left her blog account open on Daddy's computer so I broke into it and learned to type real quick so I could tell you how warm and cozy I am in here. My mommy keeps me well fed with all natural foods, and daddy rubs her belly....that's where I am right now. Ok, maybe mommy wont leave her account open any more so roaving bands of ninja babies can break into it.

We're having a BOY!

Brad and I are happy to announce that we're going to have a baby BOY! We got to see him last Wednesday. He sucked his thumb and pulled on his ears. He was also moving his legs and arms a lot. Since the appointment I have felt him move more and more. He especially likes to move when Mommy is laying in bed.

Baby moved

So I was lying in bed last night and I felt the baby move! Finally! I was so excited I called my mom and told her. It came as a wonderful reassurance to know that the baby is moving around in there!

REALLY Starting to Show

So I met Brad at Atlanta International Airport for the wedding in the Bahamas. One of the first things he said was that I was showing. I hadn't really noticed. I am, though. My womb is getting bigger, so obviously it has started to push all my other digestive organs up.
The baby this week is 4 inches long. I can't believe that he is already that big. Three more weeks and Brad and I will find out the sex of the baby; still kinda hoping for a boy, but I'll be just as thrilled with a girl.
Watched Curious George today. Super cute movie. I am thinking of buying it for Baby Walters.

Music for Baby!

I found the cutest baby album today on Target.com. I was so excited I just had to share this with my readers! It's called Rockabye Baby! There is a whole series of them each featuring a particular music group or solo artist. Here's the cover of the one I'm gonna get!

Morning Sickness and the Bahamas

The last five days have been just awful. I 've felt more ill in that time then the rest of my pregnancy so far. Strange that I should have a bout of it just before I'm due to be in my second trimester. I don't really understand it, but after waking up this morning with no sickness, I'm thinking it might be at an end, finally. I guess I should feel lucky that I didn't have to put up with it everyday from week 6 till now.
I'm gearing up for my trip to the Bahamas to see Brad and shoot a wedding with him. I hope to have some photos to post of my growing belly by early next week. I sure doi hope that the morning sickness ends by the time I leave for the Bahamas!

Baby's Heartbeat and Other Happenings

So I heard the baby's heartbeat at my appointment on Thursday. It was so fast! I also heard squeaking noises which my midwife said was the sound of the baby moving. Apparently, the baby doesn't care for the doppler machine!
In other news, I discovered that I have gotten my first stretch marks. YAY! (sarcastically) I'm not gonna tell where. I knew I'd probably get them but I didn't think they'd crop up so soon! Oh, well, I embrace my stretch marks. They are just part of the whole experience. And they will fade with time. (keep telling yourself that)

Baby's First Picture

So here is the long awaited photo of Baby Walters. Brad was good enough to scan the sonogram photo and put it on his blog so I just copied it. Isn't Baby so tiny?

First Appointment

So I went to my first appointment with my mom and younger sister Miriam this past Thursday. It was so nice to have them there in view of the fact that Brad couldn't be there. I really like my midwife, Laura.
We did the ultrasound first, because I happened to have a full bladder. Big surprise there! We saw the little baby. So perfect already--little hands and feet, and a little heartbeat fluttering in its chest! Big head (it's probably a boy! hee hee) So precious. I could have sworn that the baby kicked its left leg, but the midwife didn't see it and the baby wouldn't move when she poked at it. Oh, well, it must have been dozing. I have a feeling it will be moving around a lot when we have our next ultrasound at 18 weeks. Brad will be back then and we'll find out the sex of the baby, as long as the baby cooperates.

Wedding Anniversary

Well, today was Brad's and my wedding anniversary. I just lounged all day. It really stunk that we couldn't be together, but when we spoke we agreed we would never be apart on such a special day again. I think I've been doing pretty well with Brad being gone. I just try to keep my eyes on the end of the road and look forward to when he'll never leave me for 3 months at a time again. I know that when he gets back we'll be stronger and more in love than ever. Absence does make the heart grow fonder, so cliche, but true.

Cleaning House

Well, I started cleaning the house for my parents and Miriam's arrival on Sunday. I am so excited that they are coming to stay for a few days. Mom and Miriam are actually going to go to my first appointment at the midwives' office. I can't wait to hear the baby's heartbeat!
Brad bought a video camera yesterday and he's sending it with Mom, Dad, and Miriam so that he can see what the first appointment was like and so he can hear the heartbeat, too. I wish he could be here, but a video is almost as good--well, it will just have to do.

Crochet and Family

On Tuesday, I got up really early, took the dogs to Camp Bow Wow, and Harley and I headed up north to visit Brad's cousins, The Ashmore family--Doug, Theresa, Kara and Kyle. I am so glad to have family only 1.5 hours away. The main purpose of the trip was to see them and get away overnight, but the reason was learn how to make baby booties for Baby Walters. Theresa's friend Carmen came over and was so wonderful to explain how to make them. Thank you Carmen! I wanted to show you a picture of my very first bootie. I've also attached photos of me with Kara and Kyle from this trip. Kara came back with me for the rest of the week and I am so happy to have the company! She has been a delight.

My Mom's Birthday

This morning I woke up with the worst morning sickness yet. I was really wishing Brad were here, so he could take of me. I am probably being a bit of a baby, but I hate being nauseous, and it didn't help that the dogs were all of the sudden needing attention and a potty break when I felt the worst. I spoke with Dad telling him I was sick again and he thinks it's a boy. Ha! I think he secretly would like it to be a boy. I think that would be wonderful for Dad to have a grandson to go fishing and hunting with.
Today just happens to be my mother's birthday so as I lay in bed I called her and she said she was sick from inhaling too much dust at Grandmama's. Wonderful to be sick on your birthday, isn't it? So anyway, we commiserated with one another over our "illnesses," and had a laugh about an incident Mom and Dad had this morning at Bagelhead's involving a bagel and a sausage pepperjack stick.
I wish I could be there with everyone celebrating Mom's and our family friend Jade Neal's birthday.
I just need to keep myself busy and not think about it I guess.

Baby's First Gift

A woman from my church who also happens to be in my women's Bible study group came over to the house today. Her name is Sue and she has been so nice and welcoming to me since my first week in the study. Well, she bought a gift for the baby and I thought that was so sweet so I just had to journal it. It is a pair of two caps. One is yellow, the other green with little animals on it. And she also gave baby a lamb that says a good night prayer.

Brad Left for Florida

So Brad and I will be apart for almost 3 months. I've had some time (3 months before we moved) to get used to the idea of him being gone, but it's still not easy. I wish he could be here to experience everything with me, and I know he feels the same way. I know it will fly by, but right now it seems like forever. Maddie and Marcus, our dogs have been moping around the house, Harley, our cat, seems unaffected--so typical of a cat! I am just trying to keep myself busy and make sure I record everything. You only have your first child once.

Interview with a Midwife

Brad and I went to see two midwives today. Brad wanted to make sure that a home birth was a safe option for us and that the chance for complications was low enough to not have the worry of rushing to hospital. I think it went very well. The midwives, Laura and Robin, have worked together for years and they were both so helpful and knowledgeable. If we do decide to go with them, my first appointment will be around the end of March at about 9 weeks!
According to Laura, my due date is November 1. I am glad because originally, I had the date of October 31, and I really didn't want to have a Halloween baby. Well, that still may happen, but at least that's not my due date!

Morning Sickness...

Well, morning sickness finally came early this morning as I got out of bed to let the dogs out to go potty. It felt like I was going to faint and throw up at the same time. I got the Saltines out of my nightstand drawer and then I was okay. So ever since, I have been trying to make sure I have something in my stomach. My mom and the misdwife also told me that protein is the best way to fight it. And I have to say I think eating meats and cheeses is working. Say good bye to the meat free diet! I'm carnivorous!

It's Positive...Three Times!

It's official after three tests we're pregnant! I can't believe it! Yesterday morning I took my temp and it was high again. It's never usually this high before I start my period so I decided to use the last test I had hidden away in a box. A few seconds after setting the test on the bathroom counter, I was stunned to see a second line in the window. I've waited for this day all my life and I am so excited! Brad went out snowboarding and I wasn't sure when he would be home, but I definitely surprised him with the news. I decided to put some little baby bath toys in the tub, because I knew when he came home he'd want to take a bath. He asked me if there was a baby over earlier, and I whipped out the positive pregnancy test. The look on his face was priceless! He did ask me to go get another test to make sure, so I headed up to Wal-mart and bought EPT and Clearblue Easy digital tests. Of course, you can't just get one of each, so I still have two unused tests in the cabinet under the sink.
